Christina’s Ancestral Lines

Explore each line further …

This is a ‘work-in-progress’. Our research trees are maintained and developed on Roger’s Ancestry account. As each line is developed further, an image of it will be added to the list below. The details of each ancestor and their relationships can be found in the person index tab.

Christina’s parental grandfather is unknown.

Her father’s(JAT) father is not clear. His mother married Godfrey Thomas in 1923 in Rotherham but in 1927 according to JAT”s birth certificate was living in Blackpool and JAT’s father was JACK THOMAS, a bricklayer’s labourer. On his marriage certificate, JAT records his father as GEOFFREY Thomas. JAT was raised by his Aunt Harriet and did not know his father and did not know his true birth mother until he left school at 14.

Through her DNA results, Christina has discovered a previously unknown 1/2 1st cousin who, interestingly, also has an unknown grandfather. It seems likely that it is the same person (or a brother) but the shortage of other close matches is making the search difficult.

The OLLIVENT line is proving tricky to track down. It doesn’t help that it spelled variously with 1 or 2 “L”s, “VANT” or “VENT” and occasionally with “PH” instead of “V”.

The earliest reference to John OLLIVENT (1811 -1848) is his marriage in 1833 to Mary Ann NOWLAND. He can be found in 1841 as a Stone Mason living in Salford with his wife and children, Ann, Sarah and Charles. By the 1851 census, he had moved his family to Rotherham and had died.

He was (according to the 1841 census) born in Lancashire around 1811 but, so far, his origins have proved to be elusive.

According to the 1841 and subsequent censuses, Mary Ann NOWLAND was Irish but, so far, her life before her marriage to John OLLIVENT in 1833 has elusive. At least, the knowledge of her origins has explained the somewhat higher that expected Irish DNA in Christina’s profile.
